Instructions & Guidelines

The American-Australian Arts Fund offers small grants up to $5,000 for emerging and early-career Australian or American artists to assist in their professional development. Before you submit an application, please ensure you read all the instructions and eligibility requirements.
The standard of our applicants is very high and we are not able to fund all applicants. Please note that you may not apply for the same course or project more than once.

For the purpose of these guidelines, all applicants will be referred to as ‘the artist’.

Applying for a grant

All applicants are required to complete the online Application Form. You will be required to set up a site account. Within your account you can save, leave and go back to your application anytime before submitting by the due date. Please be aware you will be required to upload supporting documents to this online form, as listed below.

You will be notified of the results of your application by email approximately eight weeks after the deadline, at which time successful applicants will receive further instruction.

Grants from the Fund are reviewed on a three-round basis by the Association's staff in consultation with the Cultural Committee.

Applications are due at midnight Eastern Standard time (New York time). Please note that the Application Form will only be available from the Application Open date for each round. Applicants are notified of the outcome of their application approximately 8 weeks after the submission deadline.

Required supporting documents

All applicants are required to include the following supporting materials to their application:

1. Artist Statement: please outline your purpose for applying to the (no more than 600 words). The essay should cover: 

-the goals and objectives of your research/study/practice;
-the importance of this research/study/practice to your field; 
-why travel to the United States/Australia is important for this research/study/practice;
-how you will accomplish it in the time period for which the funding has been requested. 

2. Supporting material: any videos, links, articles, essays or images you think will support your application. 

3. budget outlining costs for the proposal, detailing other funding sources. Please provide confirmation letters of any confirmed pledges from other funding sources. Please note, you can request a maximum of US$5,000 from the Association. 
4. letter of confirmation from educational organization or nominated host body/ mentor (where a formal program of study, internship or mentorship is being undertaken).

5. Proof of citizenship/residency status (scanned photo page of your passport)

 Three professional references (link to submit confidential references on the application form).
