USA to Australia Scholarships


Instructions & Guidelines

The American-Australian Graduate Education Fund provides scholarship awards of up to $40,000 to support American students interested in pursuing graduate level study or post-doctoral research in Australia.


Before you submit an application, please ensure you read all the instructions and eligibility requirements.  The standard of our applicants is very high and we are not able to fund all applicants.

Applying for a scholarship

All applicants are required to complete the online Application Form. You will be required to set up a site account. Within your account you can save, leave and go back to your application any time before submitting by the due date. Please be aware you will be required to upload supporting documents to this online form.

You will be notified of the results of your application by email approximately eight weeks after the closing date deadline, at which time successful applicants will receive further instruction.

Submission Period 2018

USA – Australia Scholarship grants open annually on September 1 and close in mid-October.  In 2018 the applications close at midnight Eastern Standard time (New York time) on Monday, October 15.  Please note that access to the Application Form will only be available from the Application Open – Close date each year. Applicants are notified of the outcome of their application approximately 8 weeks after the submission deadline.

Fields of Study Supported

Biophotonics, Engineering, Environmental and Marine Sciences, Mathematics, Medicine, Sciences, Sustainability and Technology.

General Eligibility

To be eligible for a Graduate Scholarship you must be:

-       An American citizen or permanent resident;

-       Undertaking or about to undertake research or study at graduate level or above;

-       Accepted or affiliated into an Australian University or accredited institution; and

-       Plan to undertake a minimum of one-year full time research or study.

Note: Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable financial need.

-       Headshot, min 1MB, 300 DPI

 -      Video presentation

-       Passport biographic page

-       Offer or acceptance letter from your host university

-       Academic transcripts for Graduate and/or Undergraduate study

-       Resume

-       Detailed budget for intended study/research program

-       Confirmation of Identity - Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB), if applying for a Native American Indigenous Scholarship

-       Military Discharge Papers, if applying for a Veterans' Scholarship
