Instructions & Guidelines

The American-Australian Education Fund provides scholarship awards of up to $40,000 to support graduate level study or post-doctoral research in two directions:

  • For Australian Citizens travelling to the US;
  • For US Citizens traveling to Australia

Before you submit an application, please ensure you read all the instructions and eligibility requirements.  The standard of our applicants is very high and we are not able to fund all applicants.

Applying for a scholarship
 

All applicants are required to complete the online Application Form (links only available when applications are open). You will be required to set up a site account by registering as a "Non-Member".

  1. Go to the Scholarship page you would like to apply for via the scholarship links on the home page
  2. Click on the "Application Form" link or "Apply Now" button
  3. Select "Click here to Register" link
  4. Select "Email Subscriber (Non-Member)" >> click the Continue button
  5. Fill in the remaining details
  6. Return to the Scholarship page you would like to apply for and repeat step 2
  7. Sign In using the Log In details you just created
  8. Start your application!

Within your account you can save, leave and go back to your application any time before submitting by the due date. Please be aware you will be required to upload supporting documents to this online form.


You will be notified of the results of your application by email approximately eight weeks after the closing date deadline, at which time selected applicants will receive further instruction.

Submission Period 2019

Round one: The Australia – USA Graduate Scholarship online application form will open on February 1, 2019 and close at midnight Eastern Standard time (New York time) on March 18, 2019.

Round two: The USA - Australia Graduate Scholarship online application form will open on September 1, 2019 and close at midnight Eastern Standard time (New York time) on October 15, 2019.

*Please note that access to each online application form will only be available from the date applications are open to the date applications close each year. Applicants are notified of the outcome of their application approximately 8 weeks after the submission deadline.

Fields of Study Supported

Biophotonics, Engineering, Environmental and Marine Sciences, Mathematics, Medicine, Sciences, Sustainability and Technology.

General Eligibility

Round one: To be eligible for the Australia – USA Graduate Scholarships you must be:

-       An Australian citizen or permanent resident;

-       Undertaking or about to undertake research or study at graduate level or above in the US;

-       Accepted or affiliated into an American University or accredited institution; and

-       Plan to undertake a minimum of one-year full time research or study.

Round two: To be eligible for the USA - Australia Graduate Scholarships you must be:

-       A US citizen or permanent resident;

-       Undertaking or about to undertake research or study at graduate level or above in Australia;

-       Accepted or affiliated into an Australian University or accredited institution; and

-       Plan to undertake a minimum of one-year full time research or study.

*Please Note: Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable financial need.

Required Application Documents

-       High-resolution headshot & in-action shot (min 1MB, 300 DPI) 

 -      Video presentation

-       Passport biographic page

-       Offer or acceptance letter from your host university

-       Academic transcripts for Graduate and/or Undergraduate study

-       Resume

-       Detailed budget for intended study/research program

-       Confirmation of Identity - Verification, if applying for the Education Fund as an Indigenous Australian or Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian

-       Military Discharge Papers, if applying for a Veterans' Scholarship
