70TH ANNIVERSARY BENEFIT DINNER
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2018

Join us for a memorable night as we celebrate 70 years and honor Marillyn Hewson, Chairman, President & CEO, Lockheed Martin Corporation and Rupert Murdoch AC, Executive Chairman. 21st Century Fox and News Corp at our 2018 Benefit Dinner.

The evening will highlight the intellectual scope of our current Education scholars and alumni, as well as showcase their cutting-edge research.  Since 2002, the Association has invested over US$7.5 million to support more than 300 American and Australian scholars undertake postgraduate study and research in a wide range of fields, including medicine, STEM and sustainability at prestigious institutions in Australia and the United States.

AMERICAN-AUSTRALIAN ARTS SHOWCASE
TUESDAY, JULY 31, 2018

The American Australian Association is hosting a unique Arts Showcase to highlight the depth of talent of our diverse Dame Joan Sutherland Fund alum.  The showcase will feature exhibitions from a selection of visual artists, as well as musical and theatrical performances.  Each of the featured artists has been the beneficiary of a Dame Joan Sutherland Fund grant.  The Fund was established in 1998 to provide grants to emerging Australian and American artists who show great talent in the fields of theater, dance, film & television, music, literary arts, visual arts, crafts and design.

  AWNY AND OLSEN GRUIN PRESENT ‘ARRKANALA LYILHITJIKA: THE JOY OF SINGING'

 
Enjoy an evening of remarkable song, history and cross-cultural collaboration with an hour-long performance by the Central Australian Aboriginal Women's Choir.  
The performance will be followed by an intimate Q&A session with senior members of the Choir, conductor Morris Stuart and filmmaker Naina Sen, moderated by Australian media personality and author Gretel Killeen.

Congratulations to our inaugural AAA David Charles Nason Journalism Scholarship recipient, Emma Cillekens and her team, on winning a New York Emmy for their work on the short documentary series and interactive website project Finding Sanctuary NYC.

  SCHOLAR UPDATE - DR. MONKOL LEK

Dr. Monkol Lek, a 2012 AAA Sir Keith Murdoch Scholar, is an inspirational story of success.  Driven by a desire to pinpoint the cause of Muscular Dystrophy, a condition he was diagnosed with himself, Dr. Lek now runs his own genetics laboratory at Yale University.  His story was recently featured in the ABC's 7:30 Report.
