Artist profile
Jeremy Chan
Dame Joan Sutherland Fund recipient, Pianist
Jeremy Chan is a young and emerging Australian pianist based in Sydney. He has performed extensively in prestigious venues across all major states in Australia and is currently completing an interstate concert tour before leaving for the bright lights of New York in August 2010.

Awarded the LMusA at sixteen, he has since then distinguished himself in many competitions, most recently having performed on a live broadcast as the only piano finalist in the 2MBS-FM Young Performers Award.

Jeremy began his tertiary music studies as an Alumni Scholar at the University of New South Wales where he appeared as a soloist with the university orchestra, was awarded a prize from the Fellowship of Australian Composers and was placed on the Dean’s List for outstanding achievement inter alia.

Assisted by funds from the American Australian Association – Dame Joan Sutherland Fund and the Australian Business Arts Foundation – Australia Cultural Fund, Jeremy will be continuing his piano studies with Edna Golandsky at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College in New York, where he has recently been accepted, commencing late August 2010.

During the next two years, Jeremy will be working towards completing his Bachelor of Music, building on his skills as a solo and collaborative artist, preparing for competitions, festivals and concerts, as well as working towards becoming a certified instructor in the Taubman approach to piano playing. Having experienced the transformative effect of the Taubman approach on his own playing after struggling with playing-related injuries early in his career, Jeremy is looking forward to helping other interested Australian pianists when he returns home.
