Christopher Bennett
Dame Joan Sutherland Fund recipient, Cellist


Christopher completed a Bachelor of Music (performance) with Honours in 2013. In his time at The Con he has studied under internationally renowned cellists Susan Blake, Daniel Yeadon, and currently Georg Pedersen. During this time Christopher has been involved in various orchestral training programs including the Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute (2010, 2011) and the Sydney Youth Orchestra (Principal Cello, 2011), and in 2012 attended the Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp on full scholarship. At the end of his studies at The Con, Christopher was awarded an Arts Fellowship through Ars Musica Australis, and will be receiving on going financial support to continue his studies in music.

In 2013, Christopher received a scholarship from the Dame Joan Sutherland Fund, and this allowed him to attend Meadowmount Summer School for two months. Here he took lessons from Alan Rafferty, Clive Greensmith (Tokyo String Quartet) and Jeffrey Solow.

Concurrently to studying performance, Christopher also has a strong interest in pedagogy and maintains a private teaching studio with students ranging from beginner to 8th grade AMEB. In addition to this, he has worked as an orchestral tutor for The Arts Unit, including tutoring at State Music Camp and Schools Spectacular.
