Anthea Behm
Dame Joan Sutherland Fund recipient, Visual Artist

Anthea Behm is a visual artist working with video, performance, and photography. In 2009 she received her Master of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), and her Bachelor of Fine Arts (First Class Honours), was received from the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales in 2005. Behm has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Skills and Arts Development Grant (2010), and the New Work Grant (2009), both from the Visual Arts Board, Australia Council for the Arts, as well as the 2007 Anne & Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarship. Behm has lectured in the Photography Department at SAIC, guest lectured at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Loyola University Chicago, and participated in the Visiting Artists Program at the University of Plymouth, United Kingdom. Her writing has been published in Difference Reframed: Reflections on Art and Difference (ed. A. Kokoli, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, London, 2007), and her work exhibited in Australia, the United Kingdom and North America. Behm’s work has been reviewed in publications including X-TRA, EXIT BOOK, Chicago Art Review, and Art and Australia. Behm is currently participating in the studio component of the Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum of American Art.
