Jesse Colangelo-Lillis

Research Interest: Oceanography
Jesse is supported by a NSF IGERT fellowship to study Oceanography and Astrobiology at the University of Washington in Seattle. At the Australian National University he will study the relationship between the chemistry of the ancient oceans and the evolution of marine organisms one billion years ago by analysing  some of the oldest sedimentary rocks on the planet.

Eileen Dunne
Boston University/ Murdoch Children’s Research Institute
Research Interest: Microbiology
Eileen recently finished her Ph.D. in Microbiology from Boston University and joined the pneumococcal research group at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in Melbourne as a postdoctoral scientist.  Her work focuses on studying the effects of pneumococcal vaccination on children in developing countries and utilizing new technologies for genetic surveillance of Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Stephanie Mills
University of Texas at Austin/ Monash University
Research Interest: Geosciences
Stephanie finished her B.Sc. from the University of Texas at Austin and moved to Australia to pursue a PhD in ore deposit geology at Monash University in Melbourne. Monash gives her the opportunity to experience Australia's rich mining industry culture while working on the academically challenging intrusion-related gold deposits of Shandong Province in north eastern China.

Katherine Richeson
Davidson College/ University of Queensland
Research Interest: Nanomedicine
After graduating from Davidson College, Katherine will be working in the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology at the University of Queensland.  She will be researching nanostructure biosensors for improved medical diagnostics, focusing on computational modeling and construction of biosensors for more accurate and earlier breast cancer diagnosis.

Dana Willner
State University of San Diego/ University of Queensland
Research Interest: Life Sciences

Dana is a post-doctoral researcher at the Australian Centre for Ecogenomics. As a Sir Keith Murdoch Fellow, Dana will direct an independent research project to compare bacterial communities in the sinuses and lung tissue of cystic fibrosis patients receiving lung transplants.

Research Interest: Comparative Neurobiology in sharks
Kara’s research has focused on comparative neuro-anatomy within the clade of cartilaginous fishes (sharks, skates, rays, and holocephalans), and how the development of major brain areas vary between species in conjunction with the adaptive evolution of their sensory and motor systems.
