2008 BENEFIT DINNER WRAP UPOver 600 people gathered at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on November 12, 2008, for the American Australian Association's 60th Anniversary Benefit Dinner recognizing all past Honorees. The Dinner was an outstanding success with $1.7 million being raised for the Association's Education Fund (please visit our 60th Anniversary Contributor's Listing). To date, more than 85 Fellows have received awards totaling over $2 million for their postgraduate and postdoctoral research. The evening's highlights included an exclusive preview of the Baz Luhrmann movie epic Australia starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, the presentation of awards to the Association's Education Fellows and an inspirational speech by Rupert Murdoch.
Special guests included Australian Treasurer Wayne Swan, Wendy Turnbull MBE (Grand Slam Tennis Champion), Damien Mudge (Doubles Squash Champion) and many business and government leaders. Fox 5 New York covered the evening (top right) and The New York Post has also featured an article on the event.
