![]() ![]() Presently based in Sydney, Marcus has a particular interest in realist portraiture and constantly draws his inspiration from the incredible paintings of artists such as William Bouguereau, Ingres, Vermeer, Velasquez, John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn, Rembrandt, Rubens, Holbein, Waterhouse, Lord Leighton and Annigoni.
Marcus studied at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney after winning the Sir William Dobell Scholarship. Since deciding to focus on painting and drawing full time, he has been recognized with several art prizes. Marcus continues to supplement his art practice with advanced studies at the Julian Ashton Art School. In 2010, he was a finalist, with 'Honourable Mention', in the Shirley Hannan National Portrait Prize, a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and a finalist in the Alice Bale Travelling Scholarship Prize.
In 2011, Marcus was selected as a finalist in the prestigious Archibald Prize with his 'Portrait of a Seated Woman', a portrait of his wife Vanessa.
Marcus has drawings and paintings held in public and private collections in the UK and Australia.
