The Fishbowl Boys
Dame Joan Sutherland Fund recipient, Vocalists

Formed in 2006, we started singing together while still in high school at Charles Campbell Secondary School.  Our coach and creator – then student teacher Jonathan Bligh introduced us to four part vocal harmony and off we went.   In 3 short months we had our first performance - a local talent show. We won first place!

2007 - We travelled to Sydney for our first official barbershop competition. As the ‘new kids on the block’ we won the National Schools Championship for the Barbershop association. Arriving home to Tim Noonan from the Local ABC radio meeting us at the airport for a live interview!
2008 - With a substantial repertoire under our belts, The Fishbowl Boys were here to stay. We’ve performed at the Entertainment Centre, The Convention Centre, The Festival Theatre, the Channel 7 series ‘Australia’s Got Talent’; we sang on radio and were in the local papers The Advertiser and Messenger Press regularly.
2009 - Hobart for the 2009 National Barbershop competition. Silver medallists in the youth competition (under 25 – we were all 18 at the time) and finished a very credible 7th in the open quartet comp. Apart from Hobart, the highlight of 2010 was performing at Adelaide’s Carols by Candlelight at Elder Park in front of a crowd of more than 30 000! As well as all the gigs, we produced and released our debut CD.
2010 - 3 sell out Fringe shows! We entered in the local Adelaide Eisteddfod Competition and won the Acapella section with a score of 98! We were also awarded the Choral Achievement in Performance Excellence. We were fortunate enough to be invited to sing the National
Anthem (in 4 parts) for our Governor at the awards concert in September.
2011 – This year we turn 5! We’re having a special birthday party in May – ask us for info!
Another 3 fantastic fringe shows, this year we performed at The Austral Hotel in Rundle St. We’re gearing up for the ‘Trip of a Lifetime’, travelling with the Perth Barbershop Chorus, Vocal Evolution, to compete in the International barbershop competition in Kansas City in July. We’re also competing in our own right as a quartet in the collegiate (youth) comps. It’s going to be amazing to represent our country – we want Aussie tracksuits! We’re going to Denver, Kansas City and Los Angeles while in the States.
