JENNIFER NASON CHAIRMAN OF THE AMERICAN AUSTRALIAN ASSOCIATION
IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE PERTH USASIA CENTRE & RIO TINTO PARTNERSHIP
The Perth USAsia Centre is a $10 million initiative of the American Australian Association, in collaboration with The University of Western Australia and the US Studies Centre at The University of Sydney, with funding from the Federal and State Government. As Chairman of the American Australian Association, I am excited that Rio Tinto and Perth USAsia Centre have announced a $1 million partnership. The American Australian Association is one of the proud co-founders of the United States Studies Center and the Perth USAsia Centre. This new partnership will help strengthen the already strong connections between America and Australia.
Andrew Harding CEO said the company was pleased to be the first major corporate investor in the Centre’s core programs. Rio Tinto is a mining company, with operations in more than 40 countries. As a global company, Rio Tinto focuses on finding, mining and processing mineral resources.
“This partnership will foster the already strong connections and future opportunities for our business in these critical regions, including academic and policy programs to increase industry participation, technology development and strategic community and stakeholder engagement” said Harding.
The Perth USAsia Centre was publicly launched in 2012, by then US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton at The University of Western Australia. The Centre is a non-partisan, not-for-profit institution that promotes stronger relationships between Australia, the Indo-Pacific and the USA by contributing to strategic thinking, policy development and enhanced networks between government, the private sector and academia.
Rio Tinto's contribution to the Centre will be $250,000 per annum for the next four years. To read more please visit Rio Tinto and Perth USAsia Centre.
