On Friday, May 5, 2017, guests joined the American Australian Association at the Australian Consulate-General in New York City to continue a week of commemoration for the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea.

The honored guests at the reception were the seven WWII Battle of the Coral Sea veterans - Bill White, Gordon Johnson, Derek Holyoake, Norm Tame; WWII Pacific War veteran RADM Andrew Robertson - who flew from Australia courtesy of
Qantas Airways; and John Hancock, Roger Spooner and Wendell Thrasher from various parts of the United States to mark this historic event.

There were many emotional moments through out the afternoon as the veterans recalled the arduous 5 day battle that caused them to lose friends and left them thinking that they would not make it home to their loved ones.

The American Australian Association is honored to have hosted these eight veterans and their families and extremely grateful to them and all of the servicemen and women who fought to protect the values cherished by our two nations.
