Matthew Herington received the 2015 University of Queensland Fellowship from the American Australian Association for his research on energy and poverty. Matthew is hosted by the George Warren Brown School of Social Work and the McDonnell International Scholar’s Academy at Washington University in St Louis. We reached out to Matthew to ask how his time in St Louis has enhanced his research.

“I am immensely grateful to the Association for the opportunity to collaborate with renowned scholars here at the Brown School. Under the leadership of Professors Gautam Yadama and Peter Hovmand at the Social System Design Lab, the inspiring team here is pioneering research at the critical frontier of understanding complex social and ecological systems. Exposure to these prominent thinkers in the field and innovative methods has greatly enhanced my research on energy, livelihoods and sustainable development in India. Fostered by the support of the Association, this Fellowship has helped to develop enduring collaborations between our institutions across the Pacific, united by the ultimate goal of achieving greater livelihood outcomes for impoverished communities throughout the developed and developing world.”
