Launch of Victorians Abroad in Boston

On August 20, 2009, the American Australian Association, New England was pleased to support the Boston launch of Victorians Abroad, a new initiative managed by Advance.  The event was hosted by Victor Perton, the Commissioner to the Americas for the State Government of Victoria, at the Harvard Club in Boston.

In his address, Victor Perton invited attendees to connect to him on Facebook, LinkedIn and to visit his blog; and he encouraged members of Victoria’s expatriate network to stay connected in order to help promote the State of Victoria as a great place to work, live, visit and invest.

Professor Marcus Breen, an Australian professor based at Northeastern University, opened his remarks with a showing of the new Boston Demons football club jersey, which proudly features the Victorians Abroad logo. Professor Breen spoke about next year’s 25th anniversary of the Boston-Melbourne sister city relationship and the synergies the two cities share.

Guests at the event included American Australian Association New England members Sue McEvoy, who will lead an Australian travel course in an upcoming term at the Boston Center for Adult Education; Brian Krantz, an American lawyer who served previously with Minter Ellison in Sydney; and Jeremy Marron, formerly with Westpac Bank and now newly expatriated to Boston.

Special thanks to Joanne Gurry from the Victorian Government Business Office in New York and Denisse Chao Villarreal from Advance for making the event such a great success.
