Amgen CEO Kevin Sharer Makes Fortune

Sharer discussed various drugs in Amgen's pipeline including its blockbuster arthritis drug Enbrel and its highly anticipated osteoporosis drug denosumab. He also talked about Amgen's challenges amidst the recession and health-care reform. Amgen has tightened its belt across the board in light of the recession but has not cut costs in its critical activities, in particular research and development, and training.
"Be willing to embrace risk and know that you only grow outside your comfort zone."
When asked about his career and for management advice, Sharer discussed the many lessons learned while in the U.S. Navy, and at McKinsey and General Electric.
