Q: What is the Australia to USA Fellowship Program?
A: The Association awards Fellowships at the graduate (Masters, PhD or post-doctoral) level of up to US$25,000 each year. Fellowships are available for Australians who will benefit from doing advanced research or study in the fields of business, science, technology, medicine and engineering in the United States. In return, Fellows are expected to contribute to Australia’s intellectual capital as well as the country’s overall social and economic well-being upon their return. We also offer Americans the opportunity for study and research opportunities in Australia
Q: What is the USA to Australia Fellowship Program?
A: The Association awards Fellowships each year at the graduate (Masters, PhD or post-doctoral) level of up to AU$25,000 for US scholars undertaking advanced research or study in Australia. Fellowships are available for Americans who will benefit from doing research or study in the fields of life sciences, medicine or mining. There is particular interest in the fields of oceanography/marine sciences & stem cell research.
Q: Does the Association help arrange university or institutional affiliations in the US?
A: No. Applicants must make their own arrangements for university affiliation and have a confirmed placement by the time the Fellowship is awarded.

Q: Who is eligible for the Australia to the US Fellowship program?
A: Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia doing research or studying at the graduate level – Masters, PhD or post-doctoral. Applicants may already be in the U.S. at the time of application. Please read the specific eligibility guidelines for each program.

A: Study without a defined purpose is less compelling for a fellowship award. Applicants must explain why being in the Australia/ the US is important to their research or study.
Q: Are their minimum/ maximum time restrictions on the duration of the Fellowship?
A: Fellowships must be for a minimum of 3 months, a maximum of 1 year.
Q: I'm an Australian citizen but I'm already studying/ living in the US, am I still eligible to apply for the A to US Fellowships?
A: Yes, you need only be a citizen or permenant resident of the AU. The same rule applies to US citizens wanting to apply for US to Australia Fellowships.
BUDGET/FINANCES
Q. What items can be included in the budget?
A. Generally the Fellowship supports the fellows travel, living and studying expenses. Please see application instructions and guidelines for further information on allowable/non-allowable expenses.
Q: Can I accept other grants or awards in addition to the American Australian Association Fellowship?
A: You may accept additional grants to satisfy your budget needs as described in the application form. However, you must detail the type of grant(s) and amount(s). The Association reserves the right to decline an application if the corresponding budget cannot be justified.
Q: Am I responsible for any taxes incurred as a result of being selected as a Fellow?
A: Yes. Fellows are responsible for any and all taxes incurred. We strongly advise you to seek your own independent taxation counsel.
Q. Can the Fellowship be used to pay for family/dependent travel?
A. No, the Fellowship is to assist to fellow themselves and not their dependents.
Q. If awarded, when must I begin my fellowship?
A. We generally require fellows to begin their fellowships within 12 months of their acceptance letter.
