Made of bronze, it was created in the East End London foundry where the original Liberty Bell was cast more than two centuries ago. The bell is sounded in solidarity for victims of terrible attacks and terrorism. It has been rung following the bombings in London, Madrid, Mumbai and Moscow; for the Virginia Tech victims; for the Oslo and Utoya Island, Norway victims; for the Aurora, Colorado and Oak Creek, Wisconsin victims; the Boston Marathon victims and on 9/11 anniversaries. A bell from the tower of Trinity Church rang for the Newtown, Connecticut victims as part of a national day of mourning. Historic St. Paul’s Chapel, part of the Parish of Trinity Wall Street, is located directly across from the World Trade Center site. Spared from destruction, “the little chapel that stood” was home to an extraordinary nine-month volunteer relief effort after the 2001 terrorist attacks.
