The Association is looking to extend this series to include future discussions on Small Business and Personal Investment.

Infrastructure Financing – Is it a Bubble or the Next Big Thing?

Sponsored by:

Date: 24 March 2008

Infrastructure Financing focused on the growing prevalence in Australia and the US for public-private financing of major public infrastructure and future growth opportunities.

The past ten years has seen public-private financing become far more prevalent both in the United States and in Australia to pay for and maintain major public infrastructure. Whether it is transportation, energy, power, water, wastewater, or utility services, many sectors are exploring the viability of this approach.

Discussion included whether there would be a political backlash against foreigners buying US roads, airports, ports and water utilities, the relative degree of political risk in the US versus other countries and the effect the credit market turmoil was having on infrastructure investing.

The panel moderator was Mayer Brown’s John Schmidt, a leading lawyer in this field, having represented Chicago in the sale of Chicago Skyway and Indiana in the sale of the Indiana Toll Road, and currently representing Chicago in the sale of Midway Airport and Pennsylvania in the sale of its toll roads.

Infrastructure panelists included:
