Seven of the most popular, modern world choirs will gather to participate in one of New York’s largest, international choral festivals, ever: Think Global ‘Glee’ … with folk, pop, traditional and new vocal music – all converging at Lincoln Center and United Nations Headquarters – this June, to celebrate the signing of the UN Charter, “We The Peoples.” An ethnically diverse audience of more than 10,000, including government officials, VIPs and celebrities, are expected to attend the world premiere of “The Rhythms of One World 2012 International Choral Festival,” produced by the Friendship Ambassadors Foundation (FAF). FAF’s mission is to use music to promote peace through cultural exchange.

Among those featured will be internationally recognized choirs from South Africa, Canada, Trinidad & Tobago, Luxembourg, Norway and the United States (Appalachia), scheduled to perform at noted venues throughout the city from June 25-30.

Newcastle Chamber Choir will represent Australia at the festival and perform at three locations across New York. The Choirʼs repertoire is wide-ranging, from the Renaissance to the 21st century and includes many Australian works. In 2006 the choir premiered “To Love” by iconic Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe at the National Seniorsʼ Choral Festival held in Newcastle. In 2011 the Choir released a recording of the complete choral works of Western Australian composer Iain Grandage, several of whose highly evocative works the Choir performed in concert and in competition at the World Choir Games during its tour of China.
