Car-sharing is a mainstream amenity in more than 50 cities. Zipcar is the world’s largest car-sharing company, offering self-service, on-demand cars by the hour or day. As the creator of the car-sharing industry in the U.S., Zipcar has made this a mainstream amenity in more than 50 cities throughout North America and the U.K., solving the significant parking, congestion and transportation issues that plague urban residents. Its service is offered in 28 North American states and provinces, with major operations in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago Los Angeles, London, New York, Philadelphia, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, Washington D.C., and Vancouver. Since its inception in 1999, Zipcar has signed more than 350,000 consumer and business members/drivers to share 6,500 vehicles, and recently acquired London based Streetcar in 2010 to significantly expand coverage area, membership base and fleet in the U.K.

Biography

Meet business leader: Scott Griffith, Chairman and CEO of Zipcar. Since taking the wheel in early 2003, the firm has emerged as the world’s largest car-sharing service. In the fall of 2007, Griffith led Zipcar’s merger with Flexcar; managing the integration of the companies’ fleet, technology and membership base under the Zipcar brand and service. By forging partnerships with some of the world’s top brands and largest automakers, and developing relationships with transit agencies, universities and influential city and state governments, hehas fostered the emergence of car-sharing as a new transportation category.
 
BusinessWeek named Griffith as one of its “Best Leaders of 2006,” and he is the recipient of Babson College’s ELiTE Award for entrepreneurship.
