The Association’s Business Council presented the next installment of the Finance & Investment Series. Panelists: Don Hanna, Managing Director, Global Liquid Markets Research, Fortress Investment Group; Thomas Glaessner, Managing Director and Global Policy Strategist, Citi; C. Shawn Bookin, Managing Director, Mount Kellett Capital Management LP; and Pieter Bierkens, CEO, Commonwealth Australia Securities LLC and Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s Head of Fixed Interest, Americas. Emma Moody, Markets Editor, The Wall Street Journal moderated the discussion.
The discussion began with a macro view of the global economic path, with comments on US and European regulatory reform, and the implication of these policies on the post crisis economy. The panel discussed an overview of the corporate credit bubble and where the economy is in the current default and restructuring cycle. The concluding presentation was an optimistic outlook for Australia’s economy based on its strong position of commodities and its existing regulation of the financial sector.
This event was hosted at the offices of Citi, and AAA Board Member, Sara McKerihan presided over the event. Also in attendance: Victor Perton, Victorian State Government and Peter Stebbing, Reserve Bank of Australia.
