Over 600 people gathered at Cipriani Wall Street on January 20, 2012 for the 9th Annual American Australian Association and G’Day USA Black Tie Gala, presented by National Australia Bank.
Special guests included Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer, The Hon Wayne Swan MP, Australian Ambassador to the United States, The Hon Kim Beazley, AC, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, Hon David Bradbury MP, Australian Carbon Trust Chair, Robert Hill, Former United States Ambassador to Australia, Robert McCallum Jr., Wally Mariani AM of Qantas, Anthony Pratt of Pratt Industries , Rich Rauchenberger of NAB and Honorees for the evening Darren Thomas of T & R Pastoral and David Droga of Droga5.
Guests enjoyed a Cocktail Reception at the Museum of American Finance before walking across Wall Street toward the voices of the Qantas Choir at Cipriani.
To commence the evening’s program, the Qantas Choir then took to the stage and sung the American and Australian National Anthems. The Choir was then joined by Australia’s Got Talent winner, Jack Vidgen with a show-stopping performance from the remarkable 14 year old singer.
Master of Ceremonies, Jamie Durie appeared on the stage toward the end of the energetically charged “Got the Music in Me”, and joined in on the singing, much to the audience’s surprise and delight.
Australian Celebrity Chef Pete Evans prepared the evening’s three-course menu, using the finest Australian ingredients matched with - you guessed it – some great Australian wines.
The spotlight of the evening was on the two honorees, Darren Thomas of T & R Pastoral and David Droga of Droga5: two inspirational Australians who have accomplished significant achievements in the United States. They were presented with awards and both made gracious acceptance speeches.
To top off the night, Multiplatinum Selling Artist Guy Sebastian entertained the crowd in his signature style, and introduced Australians in New York to his new single “Don’t Worry Be Happy”.
But the night wasn’t over! Guests relocated to the ballroom mezzanine for an after party, complete with a party band and much dancing.
