WAVE HILL ANNOUNCES SUNROOM PROJECT BY ARTIST VIVIANE ROMBALDI SEPPEY
AUGUST 28–OCTOBER 11
Meet the Artist on Sunday, October 3, 1PM
Bronx, NY, August 30, 2010 – Wave Hill announces Common Ground, a Sunroom Project by Viviane Rombaldi Seppey, on view through October 11, 2010. Now in its fourth season, Wave Hill’s Sunroom Project Space commissions five emerging artists each year to create a project-based solo exhibition. Rombaldi Seppey’s carefully assembled, faux stained glass seeks to respond to both the Sun Porch’s atmospheric natural light and the seasonal shift of the landscape outside.
By using recycled plastic bags for the installation, Rombaldi Seppey allows the viewer a measure of intimacy with the work through the familiarity of the material. In transforming the bags into delicate collages, she asks the audience to reconsider the value of these once discarded objects.
Viviane Rombaldi Seppey has exhibited her work in Australia, Singapore and New York, including, in 2009, Flying Words, a solo exhibition at the Mid-Manhattan Library of the New York Public Library, and group shows at The Hunterdon Art Museum, Clinton, NJ; The Lower East Side Print Shop, New York, NY; Texas State University San Marcos, TX; and The Carriage House, Islip Art Museum, Islip, NY. Her work was selected for the Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, and Sculpture by the Sea, Sydney, Australia. She was the recipient of a Lower East Side Printshop Key Holder Residency in New York, NY. She received a BFA from the National Art School, Sydney, Australia, and an MFA from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology at Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore.
