"Stock Markets - Which Way is Up?"
On Wednesday, July 28th, the Association hosted a panel discussion considering the current and future direction of global stock markets. Moderated by Anthony Hughes, the Australian Financial Review’s NY Correspondent, the panel discussed the technical, fundamental and thematic drivers of today’s equity markets. The panelists were: Carter Worth, Oppenheimer & Co; Asit Sen, Madison Williams & Co and Zachary Karabell, River Twice Research.
The Event was opened by Christopher Kearns, Deputy CEO and Head of Global Product Management, BNY Mellon Depositary Receipts, sponsors of the event.
The presentation by the panel was followed by Q & A session moderated by Mr. Hughes. Carter Worth charted the movements of several key indices and stocks, pointing to a market likely to move sideways towards the end of 2010. Asit Sen, who specializes in Asia-Pacific markets suggested that Australia’s market was better placed to appreciate going forward and that several opportunities existed in the energy and materials sphere, particularly those leveraged to the continuing China story. Finally, Zachary Karabell spoke on a wide range of thematic topics, ranging from government regulation, growth rates in China, to the likelihood of a system ending turndown. The subsequent discussion between audience members and the panel was lively and informative.
The Panel discussion was followed by a networking reception sponsored by BNY Mellon.
