Overview
The American Australian Association was established in Los Angeles, California, in 2006. In 2007, it effectively merged with AANZA, making it the leading California Association based in Los Angeles.
The Association prides itself on its strong membership of both individuals and companies from Australia and The United States, making it an effective platform for networking, skills and business development, policy and cultural exchange and leadership.
Signature AAA California events include social and cultural events such as the Annual Melbourne Cup Social and AFL Grand Finals, Museum Tours and Wine Tastings as well as Business and Career Development seminars such as The Annual Business Awards Luncheon, Tax and Immigration forums and investment panels.
Thought-leadership events are held throughout the year, attracting senior diplomats, business leaders and recognized experts in their field.
In addition, the Association's Philanthropy program in contributes to our Education Fund, The Dame Joan Sutherland Fund and the Doug Wisor Memorial Scholarship.
A high-level Benefit Dinner honoring Rupert Murdoch, AO, and Mel Gibson was held in 2006 to establish the Association in California. On October 20, 2008, the Association held a second California Benefit Dinner in Los Angeles honoring Chief Executive Officer of Qantas Airways, Geoff Dixon. Special guests included Qantas Ambassador, Captain John Travolta.
In October of 2009, the Association and the Australian Consulate, Los Angeles, joined together to welcome Australian Deputy Prime Minister, Julia Gillard. The afternoon garden reception presented a unique networking opportunity for the California community.
Most recently, the Association honored Nobel Prize-winner and World renowned Australian Scientist, Dr Elizabeth Blackburn and American Philanthropist and CEO of Cappello Capital, Me Alex Cappello for their contribution to the Australian and US communities at the 2011 California Benefit Dinner held on March 22nd, 2011 at Casa Del Mar, Santa Monica.
