 Gala Dinner Wrap Up

On January 22 2010, nearly 500 people gathered at Cipriani Wall Street for the Association's Australia Day Gala.

Guests included Australian Minister for Resources and Energy and Minister for Tourism, the Hon Martin Ferguson AM MP,  New York Consul-General, Phil Scanlan AM and former Permanent Representative to the United Nations for Australia Robert Hill.

MiG Ayesa began proceedings by performing the national anthems for Australia and
the United States. After introductory remarks from Association Chairman Malcolm Binks and President Frances Cassidy, the evening's entertainment began with Caroline O'Connor's energetic performance that set the mood for the rest of the evening.

The dancefloor filled quickly when headlining guests Human Nature  took to the stage performing Motown classics from their successful sell-out show that is currently running in Las Vegas.

Later in the evening, there was also the excitement of the drawing of the Qantas raffle and awaiting the opening of the Canturi jewelry case. Stefano Canturi designed the pendant especially for the Australia Day Gala and has a value of over $15 000.

Enjoying the celebratory nature of the evening and with the decadent three course meal ended, the dancefloor again became filled with guests dancing the night away. The Hank Lane band played a few Australian hits that the audience enjoyed immensely. The evening provided the opportunity to celebrate Australia Day with the American Australian community, meet old friends, make new contacts and enjoy a night on the town in the stunning surrounds of Cipriani Wall Street.

Australia Day is the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet of 11 convict ships from Great Britain, and the raising of the Union Jack at Sydney Cove by its commander Captain Arthur Phillip, in 1788.
